Troubleshooting Your TCL Window Portable Remote Control

Having trouble with your TCL window air conditioner’s remote control? Before assuming it's defective, try these quick troubleshooting steps to get it working again.

1. Check the Batteries

Make sure you’re using fresh, new batteries. Weak or old batteries may not provide enough power for the remote to function properly.

2. Ensure Proper Battery Installation

Double-check that the batteries are inserted correctly, matching the positive (+) and negative (-) symbols inside the battery compartment.

3. Test the Remote with Your Phone’s Camera

Not sure if the remote is sending a signal? Try this simple trick:

  • Open your phone’s camera app.
  • Point the remote's front end (where the infrared (IR) sensor is) at the camera.
  • Press a button on the remote while looking at the screen.
  • If you see a flashing light from the remote, the IR signal is working. If not, the remote may need new batteries or a replacement.

4. Ensure Nothing is Blocking the AC Unit’s Sensor

The remote control communicates with the air conditioner through an IR signal, which requires a clear path. If objects like curtains, furniture, or decorations are in the way, the signal may not reach the unit.

5. Maintain a Direct Line of Sight

For the remote to work, it must have a direct line of sight to the front of the air conditioner where the sensor is located. Make sure you’re pointing it straight at the unit from a reasonable distance.
