Connecting a Sound Bar to your TV using ARC

TCL Roku TV

What is ARC?

ARC or Audio Return Channel, is an HDMI® feature available in most TCL TV models.  This feature allows the TV and other CEC-compatible devices to send audio and video back and forth.   Using HDMI® ARC reduces the number of cables required, and optionally lets you control the volume and mute state of the receiver by enabling system audio control.

Connecting a Sound Bar to your TV

When utilizing this feature, it is important you are using the right connections and cables.
  1. At the back of your TV, locate the port labeled HDMI® ARC.
  2. Be sure you are using a High Speed HDMI® cable that supports HDMI® ARC and CEC control, to connect the sound bar to your TCL Roku TV.

Discovering Connected CEC Devices

After properly connecting your CEC-compatible devices to the TCL TV, be sure it's powered ON and follow the steps below to confirm that your TV recognizes them:

Tip: Some manufacturers have their own branded names for CEC functionality, so you might need to read the product documentation to correctly identify the CEC features of the device.

  1. Press  on your remote to open the main screen
  2. Scroll up or down and select Settings
  3. Press the  button, scroll down and select System
  4. Press the  button, scroll down and select Control other devices (CEC)
  5. Press the right arrow button, scroll down and select Search for CEC devices
  6. Press the  button and TV will start searching for connected CEC-compatible devices.

When finished, the TV displays a list of CEC devices that are connected to each HDMI® input, as well as any devices that had previously been connected. The TV remembers the names of multiple CEC devices even when they are no longer connected. If the list is longer than the allowed space, press * to see a complete list in a scrollable window.

Enabling HDMI® ARC

HDMI® ARC is disabled by default.  To enable HDMI® ARC, follow step-by-step instructions below:

  4. Press the  button, scroll down and select Control other devices (CEC)
  5. Press the right arrow button, scroll down and select HDMI ARC
  6. Press the button to enable HDMI ARC. Note: Enabling HDMI ARC also enables System audio control.  After enabling HDMI ARC, you can disable System audio by unchecking the box for this feature
